Semantic (or fact-based) modeling

Semantic (or fact-based) modeling is a technique that combines linguistic analysis
with mathematical logic to construct clear unambiguous models of a business
domain. Semantic models are more detailed and accurate than models in either
UML or ER, are able to express a wider variety of constraints and business rules
than either, and so preserve intentions and connotations from the domain.
A semantic model may be expressed either graphically using a notation
like Object Role Modeling, or in the form of a controlled natural language such
as the Constellation Query Language, which is readable by domain experts who
have no training in modeling. It can be automatically processed to generate ONF
(Optimal Normal Form) relational schemas, as well as effective object-oriented
models, and this process guarantees that the resultant schemas are always
congruent, which minimises the object-relational mapping overheads.
